Wow. I can't believe I forgot to watch the Oscars.. But fortunately, what I didn't forget was to check the NY Times for the red carpet looks!
These are my favorites ^__^
1. Cate Blanchett- There's something very ethereal about this look. Its almost costume-y, with the shoulders and all, but Cate, like everything she does, makes it work perfectly. I'm a big fan of this soft lilac that heralds 'spring is on its way!' And the yellow and lavender beading just adds a remarkable finishing touch (yellows and purples perfectly compliment each other). Well it IS by Givenchy, so I guess its a given.
2. Hilary Swank- I don't even know where to start with this dress by Gucci Premier. It just hits all the right notes. A simple gown with impeccable embellishment, a lovely ostrich feather train with an ombre of silver going into charcoal, grays never looked so good.
3. Hailee Steinfeld- This dress is absolutely precious. Theres definately a 'Sandra D' factor going on here and its not a bad thing. I think the color, a sugary pink blush, is perfect for her complection aswell. The styling is right on the mark here, simplicity all the way.
4. Helen Mirren- This dress by Vivienne Westwood is perfect. Perfect color, perfect length and fit. Some of these younger gals ought to take a lesson from Helen Mirren. Another example of Ageless beauty.
5. Michelle Williams- Ah Michelle Williams, she is SO on top of her game right now! This Chanel number is absolutely, her. Its a perfect example of how a women wears a dress, not how the dress wears the woman. Some may think she looks under done but, i think this look is totally suits her.
6. Halle Berry- This dress by Marchesa, signifies to me, a beautifully beige type cotton candy wrapped around Halle Berry. Its incredible aesthetically pleasing. And the gown offsets Halle's golden skin tone almost perfectly. A lovely nude look.
7. Mila Kunis- Mila, Mila.. You've come a looong way from bell-bottoms and flipped out Farrah hair. With this dress, i don't really know what to say, It's kind of like a feeling you get when you hear a song for the first time, but you feel like it was written for you.. The only thing that i would change is the color, it think an incredibly pale pink, or deep navy, or perhaps even silver could work just as well. Maybe i should have this made..?
8. Annette Benning- Annette Benning is so beautiful no matter what she wears, this dress, however is very stunning. Its got a nice metallic slate quality about it and fits her incredibly well.
9. Mandy Moore- This dress by Monique Lhuillier, is so perfect that I may switch up my inital wedding dress plans (sorry Balenciaga!). Its almost princess-y but, the shape and lovely nude factor make it more sophisticated and womanly. I feel like I would belt it with something contrasting, but alone its still stunning. Way to go Mandy!
10. Camila Alves- This dress has always caught my eye, I saw it in an ad some time ago, and was inspired to paint it. This is just a perfectly simple gown, with no extra frills necessary. A very old Hollywood type glamor, you can never go wrong with that.
11. Anne Hathaway- Anne Hathaway has been a constant favorite of mine, and as co-host to the Oscars she was on every one's mind. She always seems to be impeccably styled, and this is just another example. This coral red dress by Valentino is a nice contrast to Anne's pale skin. With just the right amount of accessories this looks was definitely a winner.
12. Mark Walberg's Date (?)- I don't know who this lady is, but her dress is awesome. This dress definitely has a 'look at me' appeal to it, but it isn't too over the top. And I really like the silver floral applique on the top and the off the shoulder looks as well. This coral shade for the skirt seems to be a popular color right now.
Now I just have to look for reruns of the Oscars.. sigh
