Madama Butterfly

I always love coming to Lincoln Centre, especially at night. It totally has a different vibe than in the day time. Everyone is dressed so well to go out, and it adds to the ambiance of the whole scene. Even though I'm a poor student (-__-), I try to make it a point to come out to performances every now and again, to remind me of what experiencing the arts in New York is really like.

Yesterday night I had the opportunity to go to the MET Opera for the first time, to see the popular, Madama Butterfly. I'm so glad I picked it for my first opera, it kept me interested and the staging and props were excellent, you could really feel the emotions in each scene (especially in the scene after the Butterfly and Pinkerton's wedding here). I'm really grateful to have gotten my ticket since the MET is only running a few performances this season.

As usual don't mind my ramblings, I just wish you could have been there too!

A Night Out: Cinderella

So as I stated in my previous post, last night I decided last minute to go check out a ballet! The American Ballet Theatre put on Cinderella at the MET Opera House, and it was really enjoyable. I really didn't know how much I was missing! The theatre was beautiful, and has a really lovely ambiance (save for some of those losers who went in jeans.. tisk tisk)! So I have decided to make a habit of it and go whenever I get a chance.

Cinderella, was really interesting! The whole program was well crafted, and as opposed to the regular extra elaborate poofed out dresses that you normally see in any Cinderella movie or play, this one was based in the 1920s! The outfits were sleak and wearable, and the combination between 1920s dance moves and traditional ballet was really well done.

ABT has quite a selection this season, from Cinderella to Sleeping Beauty each beautiful choreographed to ensure a lovely evening for its patrons.

So, Check it out!
